More On Investing
The Stock Market, in it's Holistic Glory, is a fascinating, intriguing enchantment that can hold one tighter than any drug. Looking up, from the bottom floor of knowledge and experience, I can see the dangers of a low grade addiction. The market is, in essence, gambling. Kind of like side betting in a crap game; you are not the player, you are betting on the player.
About a month after making the decision to get in I was in. There were not any major tremblings in the markets as I tossed eight hundred dollars US in the pot. My acquisitions broke down like this:
Adobe-5 shares
Canadian Nat'l Rail-3 shares
Linear Technology-5 shares
Parker Hannifin Corp-3 shares
Tenaris-5 shares
Waste Management-5 shares
A few weeks later I added to the mix with 6 shares of Johnson Controls and 9 shares of Rockwood Holdings. So far I haven't lost anything, although there were a few days there when things were dipping down kind of low, but I haven't exactly made anything, either. But that's kind of the plan; as long as the markets are low then keep buying cheap stocks, and really, I hope the market stays low until at least the end of the year. That way I can afford to keep adding to the pot, so when the anticipated upwelling begins I'll have more beans to grow. Something like that.
A little Update (8/23/09)
Since the last time I've written about my big adventure in the stock markets I've added shares in Aflac (Yeah, the duck. Hell, I thought it was a goose), Chubb Group, Landstar (Trucking), Manitowoc, Oceaneering, Noble Drilling and Transocean.
